Attracta Cawley

Obituaries

Dooncastle, Westport

Attracta was born in Dooncastle on March 28, 1954, to parents Jimmy and Bridget (Ciss) Cawley. She had 5 Brothers and 2 sisters, Mary (Cunningham), John (RIP), Christopher, Danny, Dympna (Thomas, RIP), Brendan and Ray.
Attracta, like so many others, moved to England in the mid 1970’s and worked in Lancashire. Upon the death of her father, she returned to live in the family home where she remained up until her illness. It was always a fun house in Dooncastle with both Attracta and her mother Ciss Cawley, two great characters of the area.
Although Attracta worked in both Westport and Castlebar she is most remembered at her main employers, Berry’s Printing and the Castlecourt hotel. The stories are legendary from these two places and reveal both her terrific relationship with colleagues and her personality. She was renowned as a very hard worker with a great sense of humour. Most in the Café Bar will remember her for the generosity of her time and the few kind words she most willingly gave. Her many sayings and turn of phrases will be forever remembered by staff and customers alike.
Everyone who worked, or came into contact, with Attracta would speak of her two most memorable attributes; her ‘golden smile’ and raucous laugh.
Her smile will be remembered for being full of devilment but also great love. Her family and close friends can all attest to this. Her generosity, her willingness to listen and her kindness always shone through in her larger than life personality.
Attracta had a big social side and enjoyed nothing more than going out for dinner, a bit of dancing and a few drinks with friends. These friends have spoken of a lifetime of terrific memories with Attracta and will miss her very much.
Attracts passed away at Mayo University Hospital on Monday, February 24, 2020. She was laid to rest with her parents at Aughagower Cemetery on February 27, 2020. Attracta will be sadly missed by all her family and friends. May she rest in peace.
