Newport, Wales and Newport, Co Mayo
Con Moran died recently in Newport, Wales where he lived for the last forty years. He was born in Collabrack, Newport to Thomas Moran and Kate McManamon. A large family of seven boys and girls, Con was the 6th son. Due to family circumstances Con spent some of his early years living with his grandmother in Rossow, Kilmeena. On return he finished schooling in Newport and secondary education in the CBS, Westport. At 17 years he went to Manchester and worked in different factories. Here he met his first wife Marie with whom he had three sons. Marie died young and he remarried, Sandra with whom he had three sons. He worked in the building trade with his brothers in Reading and around the London area. He moved to Newport, Wales in 1973 and settled there since. Although away from Ireland from a young age he retained a great fondness for his old home in Newport and Rossow. Unfortunately in October 2012 he developed cancer. In his final illness he received excellent care in St Anne’s Hospice run by the sisters of St Joseph of Annecy.
Con is mourned by his wife Sandra and six sons Conal, Geoffrey, Kevin, Paul, Shane, Nathan and grandchildren. Also brothers Andy (Reading, UK), Noel (Angmering, UK), Paddy (Galway), James (Collabrack, Newport), sisters Mary O’Malley (Gortawarla, Newport) and Sheila Byrne (Johnstown, Ballyhaunis). He was predeceased by two brothers Pascal (London) and Ted (Achill Sound).
The family appreciate the condolences received here and abroad.
May he rest in peace.
