Teresa Tarpey

Obituaries
Bekan
THE death took place recently of Teresa Tarpey, Cloonlara, Brickens. She was formerly Begley from the nearby village of Bellisker and was one of a family of seven girls. Teresa was the last surviving member of her generation of the Begley family.
Teresa married James Tarpey (who died eight years ago) and they raised a family of five, three daughters and two sons. They were people of the land who worked hard down through the years.
All matters relating to the land and the farm were familiar to Teresa. She took all these things in her stride and loved to combine work in the home with the chores on the farm. She came from that generation of Irish people who had a special bond with rural life, nature and the seasons.
Throughout her life, Teresa had a great love for music. Byrne’s Hall in nearby Loughanboy was the mecca for dancers back in those bygone days and many were the romances that started there. The venue preceded the arrival of the big commercial dancehalls.
As the years went by, she followed the arrival of the showbands and the country music bands. Music was truly a special part of her life and she loved to get up and step it out for a dance. Teresa also had a special liking for traditional Irish dancing and she passed on her love of music and dancing to her family. She was an ardent listener to Mid West Radio and also enjoyed her favourite television shows.
In declining health since September, Teresa received great care from her family. Over the years, she had shown great devotion to them and the grandchildren and this was returned in full measure during the sunset years of her life.
A gracious and kind-hearted lady, Teresa was held in the height of regard by all who knew her. She was a lovely neighbour and true friend and she will be remembered with much affection by her devoted family and good friends.
Removal took place from Donnellan’s Funeral Home in Ballyhaunis to Bekan Church with burial in the local cemetery following Requiem Mass celebrated by Fr Paddy Mullins, PP. Fr John Walsh was present at the removal ceremony.
Teresa is deeply regretted by her sons Martin and Jimmy in Cloonlara, daughters Dolores Walsh (Athlone), Noreen Robinson (Tooreen) and Regina Philbin (San Hose, California), in-laws, grandchildren, relatives, neighbours and friends.
