James, who was son of the late Pat and Bridget Fergus, was aged 69 years. He worked as a farmer for most of his life but he also worked for the Forestry Department for some years.
Removal took place to St Patrick’s Church, Lecanvey, where his remains were received by Fr Denis Carney, CC, Westport, assisted by Fr Paddy Gill, CC, Lecanvey. The chief celebrant of the Funeral Mass was Fr Francis Mitchell, CC, Westport. The lesson and prayers of the faithful were read by James’s first cousins. Burial took place at Murrisk Abbey Cemetery where the blessing of the grave was performed by Fr Mitchell.
James is survived and will be greatly missed by his sister Ann Gannon (Carrowmacloughlin, Lecanvey), brothers-in-law, Austin Gannon (Carrowmacloughlin, Lecanvey), Paddy Gannon (England), sister-in-law, Delia Splendonia (USA), cousins, relatives and many friends. He was brother of the late Kathleen Fergus (Culleen) who died in 1987 and James, who died in infancy.
Funeral arrangements were by Kilcoyne Funeral Directors, Castlebar. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
