Two students from St Colmcille's Quay National School in Westport have raised almost €1,000 for the children’s ward at Mayo University Hospital after organising a special school fundraiser.
Holly Walsh (10) and Lola Whittaker (11) came up with the idea of holding a Toy Show Pyjama Day in their school, encouraging classmates to wear their pyjamas and asking parents to donate €3 in support of the cause.

The fundraiser was supported by their teacher, Mr Joyce, SNA Anne Marie, and the principal, Mr Kevin Munnelly.
Thanks to the generosity of families and staff, the girls raised close to €1,000. They later visited Mayo University Hospital, where they presented the funds to the children’s ward along with toys for the children.
