Mayo County Council have revealed their intention to bring in a plethora of new safety measures, including pedestrian crossings, to a primary school in the West of the county.

The Council have confirmed that they plan to make necessary upgrades to the routes surrounding Brackloon Primary School, just off the N59.

The two routes to receive the safety implementations are the L-1822 Brackloon Road and the Tawnynameeltoge Road.

The proposed traffic calming measures include pedestrian crossings, junction tightening, signage and road markings with all associated site works.

Anyone with submissions or observations on the proposed works can submit them to the Head of the Westport-Belmullet Municipal District (Mr Seamus Ó Mongáin, Mayo County Council, Westport Civic Offices, Altamont Street, Westport, Co. Mayo, F28 W248).

Submissions must be marked 'Section 38 Notice - Safe Routes to School' before 4.30 pm on Sunday, January 6, 2026.
