The spotlight was firmly shone on Westport town this morning as legendary broadcaster Pat Kenny brought his Newstalk show to the Town Hall Theatre for a three-hour special.
The morning magazine show spoke to a host of locals, heard all that is good about the town, and also some of the challenges the town currently faces.
The issue of housing is currently a very complex one in the town and Newstalk reporter John Crosbie opened the show with interviews and vox-pops with people in the town on the issue.
Pat Kenny then interviewed the town's former TD, Michael Ring, who looked back on his 40 years of public service to Westport.
Pat then spoke to another man who is now synonymous with Westport, legendary musician and publican Matt Molloy, before historian James Kelly gave an fascinating insight into many of Westport's historical features.

Eimear Ní Ghallachóir, Oifigeach Pleanála Teanga with Gaeilge Iorrais in the North Mayo Gaeltacht, also spoke with Pat about the resurgence in the Irish language, before Westport restaurateur Patrick Hughes was interviewed about his starring role in the current hit RTÉ show, The Traitors.
The final segment of the show saw Mayo TDs Keira Keogh and Rose Conway-Walsh, along with Mayo News editor, Michael Duffy, discuss the news stories of the week with Pat Kenny on Friday Forum.
A spokesperson for Destination Westport declared their delight at the great exposure the town received during the three-hour broadcast, which also highlighted the many festivals and events that are due to take place in Westport during the rest of 2025.
