Flights from Edinburgh, East Midlands, and Liverpool are diverting from Ireland West Airport Knock due to Storm Amy
Storm Amy has already caused plenty of chaos for people travelling in Mayo, whether it be on our roads or on our rail lines. Now, it is continuing to cause issues for those of us in the air.
Earlier today (Friday, October 3), flight EI916 was due to depart Ireland West Airport, Knock at 1.05 pm for London Heathrow.
However, the flight had to be cancelled due to unsafe weather conditions.
Now, four inbound flights have had to be diverted elsewhere as the wind at the Mayo facility reached further highs.
Ryanair flight FR890 had been due to land in Knock from Edinburgh at 2.10 pm. However, after making their way to the West of Ireland, they were forced to turn back to the Scottish capital.
Another Ryanair flight, FR1742 from East Midlands airport, was due to touch down in Mayo at 2.15 pm. However, when still over the Irish Sea at around 1.10 pm, the plane which set off from Nottingham diverted south to Shannon Airport.
That was not the only Ryanair flight which went to the Clare airport. FR6552 from Liverpool (which was due in at 1.35 pm) spent some time circling Knock Airport before making the decision to continue down the Atlantic coast.
Lastly, Ryanair flight FR3691, which was due into Knock at 3.40 pm, made the journey across the Irish Sea to Knock before deciding to return to Birmingham, where it arrived back at approximately 5.10 pm.
Passengers either arriving into or departing from Ireland West Airport are advised to keep an eye on all channels from their airlines they are flying with ahead of travel as they continue to get to grips with Storm Amy.
The most recent flight, Ryanair flight FR807 from London Stansted, landed safely at 5.35 pm, with one more flight for today from London Luton scheduled to arrive at 6.03 pm.
