Jubilant Kilmovee-man Peter Nyland celebrates with his players after Carrick-on-Shannon's victory over Ballyhaunis.
LIDL LGFA CONNACHT JUNIOR B FINAL
Carrick-on-Shannon CS 5-9
Ballyhaunis CS 2-8
In Swinford
THE frosty air might have been the main talking-point before this much-anticipated provincial final got underway, but once the ball was the thrown in the skill, style and endeavor of two highly-talented teams captured everyone's attention.
Both sides were packed with fine footballers in every line of the pitch, and despite a fine showing from Ballyhaunis they were undone by the pace and power of their Leitrim opponents.
Carriack-on-Shannon, managed by Kilmovee's Peter Nyland, stormed into an early lead and looked acutely dangerous every time they attacked. They were seven points up before Ballyhaunis troubled the scoreboard, but the Mayo students then found their rhythm and were excellent in the second quarter. A brilliantly-converted penalty from Aoife Burke just before half-time gave Ballyhaunis a huge boost and they went to the dressingroom trailing by four, 1-4 to 2-5.

Carriack's first-half goals had come from team captain Eibhlin Guckian and speedy winger Alannah McKiernan, while centre-half-forward Lucie Maye was brilliantly accurate when point opportunities came her way.
Ballyhaunis were always in the game with Emily Duffy, Emily Gannon, Erin Higgins, Aibhe Donnellan and Niamh Delaney among those carrying the fight to the Leitrim girls.
However, Carrick began the second half explosively and goals from Maye, Caragh Guckian and Ornaith Guckian had them almost out of sight after 46 minutes.
To their credit, Ballyhaunis never took a step back and with Robyn Keane, Duffy, Sarah Gorman, Higgins and Donnellan to the fore they kept driving forward.
They were rewarded when Burke coolly slotted home another penalty in the last quarter and points arrived from Duffy and Donnellan but there was no stopping Carrick who were deserving winners at the end of an excellent game of football.
