The organisers of the Castlebar Community Games have issued a final appeal for help. For the past number of years they have been struggling to find volunteers, parents, guardians, carers, teachers, community members and adults to step forward and become involved in running the organisation.
But numerous appeals and meetings have been held and nobody has shown any interest in becoming involved. The remaining few volunteers who have been running the organisation are now making one final appeal to clubs and sporting bodies to support Castlebar Community Games before it's too late.
A public meeting to save the games will take place on Wednesday, February 12 from 7.30pm in the Ivy Tower Hotel in Castlebar.

The need for people to step forward and become involved in the organisation is vital if Community Games is to survive in the Mayo county town. Different roles have to be filled in order for the organisation to be properly affiliated and registered as directed in the rule book of National Community Games.
The loss of Community Games will in effect stop hundreds of children from competing from under 6 years up to 16 years old.
Imagine telling your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews that they can no longer take part in swimming, athletics, art, handwriting, model making, football, soccer, futsal, culture events, gymnastics, basketball, chess, draughts, cycling, pitch & putt, quiz, rugby, rounders, hurling, debating, handball, singing, group music etc.

The reality of this situation developing is not worth thinking about. Community Games offers the children of our generation the opportunity to become involved in the sporting and cultural activities that presently exist.
