MAYO IFC ROUND 3

GROUP 1

Crossmolina 2-10

Louisburgh 0-10

WESTPORT

The famous saying “goals win games” was certainly true on Saturday evening as Crossmolina booked their spot in the quarter-final when they got the better of a talented Louisburgh outfit.

Prominent forwards Dylan Prendergast and James Maheady stood out in the opening stages as they exchanged scores early on. Louisburgh`s Mark Gibbons kicked two well-struck efforts for John Kelly`s side however, a penalty from Mayo senior player, Conor Loftus made sure the Deel Rovers went in at the break in the lead.

Louisburgh needed to get back into it, but a black card for Alfie Morrison meant Louisburgh were starting the second half with a numerical disadvantage. Dylan Prendergast and Fionnan Duffy were to the fore for their respective sides as Louisburgh fought back and Oisin Lally`s point left just the bare minimum between the sides.

However, Crossmolina refused to be overhauled and although he was playing in the heart of the defence, Conor Loftus kicked an inspirational score for the Deel men after he strode up the centre. Prendergast tried to inspire the Clew Bay outfit but they ultimately came up short and a goal from Niall Coggins sealed the win as they finished strongly.
