MAYO SFC ROUND 2

GROUP 4

Garrymore 0-13

Castlebar Mitchels 2-7

GARRYMORE

FOR the second game in succession Castlebar Mitchels threw away a healthy second-half lead and came away with just a point to show for their efforts as a brilliant Garrymore comeback saw the spoils shared under lights on Saturday night.

A black card for goalkeeper Rory Byrne, who was caught in possession high up the field and committed a foul as he raced back to goal, was the turning point as Garrymore came back from six points down midway through the second-half.

Goals from Ciaran Mylett and John MacMonagle either side of the half-time break looked to have secured both points for Barry Moran’s side but the never-say-die attitude of the men from the border was a sight to behold as the sun went down.

James Durcan and Mylett excelled in attack for Mitchels but never got a chance to get going in the second-half as Garrymore took control of the game and Mitchels stood firm in their tactic of bringing all 15 men inside their own 45 when out of possession.

Led by the excellent Shane and Trevor Nally, Garrymore clawed their way back into contention and could have won the game right at the death but Darren Quinn saw his long-range effort fall inches short before the final whistle sounded.
