Conn Rangers advanced to the second round of the FAI Junior Cup after an impressive victory over Fahy Rovers at Mount Falcon on Sunday morning.

A brace of goals each from Peter Naughton and Kyle Neary were enough to secure victory for Joe Faughnan’s men.

Despite their Super League opening day defeat, Conn came into this contest as hot favourites, with Fahy plying their trade in League 1. In fact, Fahy began their league campaign with a draw against Conn Rangers ‘B’ two weeks ago.

The home side began this contest on the front foot, and they had the majority of possession throughout the opening half.

The north Mayo side opened the scoring in the 15th minute, when Peter Naughton dispatched a penalty to the Fahy net.

Minutes later, the former Sligo Gaelic footballer got his second goal from the penalty spot, after a foul in the Fahy penalty box.

Conn made it 3-0 just after the half-hour mark, when Kyle Neary calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net, following a Conn corner.

A minute later, Neary got the second goal of his brace, after good build-up play by the hosts.

Despite trailing 4-0 at the break, Fahy Rovers looked far more threatening in the second period, and they pulled a goal back in the 48th minute, through Ian Higgins.

The away side pulled a second goal back in the 77th minute after a fine goal by Colin Burns. However, it was too little too late, as Conn hung on for a deserved victory.
