Manulla began their Intersport Elverys Super League campaign with an impressive home victory over Conn Rangers on Sunday morning.

A brace of goals from Gary McHale and one from Padraig Beirne were enough to secure victory for the hosts.

In a physical affair, it was the men in blue who played with a very strong wind for the first 45 minutes. Manulla started brightly and they would have felt they were unlucky not to be ahead at the break, as the sides went in level at 0-0.

Despite playing against the stiff breeze in the second half, the home side started the half the same way they finished the first.

The deadlock finally came on the hour mark, when Beirne finished to the Conn net, following neat play by the eventual victors.

The hosts doubled their advantage just over ten minutes later when McHale finished past Brian McMahon in the away side’s goal.

To their credit, Conn Rangers didn’t give up, and the North Mayo side pulled a goal back in the 79th minute, when Owen McNamara scored from an Adam Gallagher corner.

The ever-impressive McHale, however, responded moments later to secure victory for Manulla, following a brilliant finish from inside the penalty box.

Both teams are not in league action next weekend, as a plethora of FAI Junior Cup games involving teams from Mayo take place next weekend.
