With the hands of time slowly ticking down to the curtain-raiser for the Mayo soccer season, the excitement in the local club scene has gone up a notch following the release of the fixture list for the 2026 campaign.

This season sees a restructuring of the top flight, as the league plans to separate into two 'mini leagues' as such at the midway point.

The return of the local leagues was due to take place on Sunday, February 1. However, the start date was pushed back.

That change to the system means that we have only received the match-ups for the first nine rounds of the season, but there are still plenty of ties to whet the appetite.

Castlebar Celtic will kick-start their defence of their crown with a trip to take on Ballyglass, who are just up from the Premier League.

The side who ran them closest in 2025, Westport United are also on the road to take on Ballyheane, while Ballina Town, who have strengthened in the off-season, will make their way south to take on Claremorris.

Fans won't have to wait too long to see the Mayo 'El Clasico', as fierce rivals Castlebar Celtic and Westport United will lock horns in the county town on Gameweek Three, the weekend of April 4/5.
