MAYO FC had home advantage over the weekend as their U-17 boys and U-17 girls teams took points from their respective games in Milebush.
On Sunday, the U-17 boys got their first League of Ireland win of the year with an entertaining 3-2 win over Limerick FC.
Anthony Elding’s team fell behind after an early own goal but went two up before their guests made it a one-goal game in the last fifteen minutes.
An own goal from Jamal Sow put Limerick FC ahead after 14 minutes, but that was soon negated by Rene Vestenicky, who levelled seven minutes later.
Mayo didn’t break the deadlock until the 66th minute when - after they made four substitutions - Eoghan Powell put them 2-1 up.
One of the aforementioned subs, Aron Heaney, put them 3-1 up from the penalty spot two minutes later before Saad Abdalla pulled one back from Limerick FC heading into the last 15 minutes.
Mayo FC ultimately dismissed the Munster side and secured their first competitive win of the year.
On the same weekend, the club’s U-17 girls gained a point after a hard-fought game against Galway United.
Jessica Feeney’s side made amends for an earlier 5-1 defeat away to Finn Harps by earning a point against their neighbours on Saturday afternoon.
After going behind in the fourth minute, the hosts levelled before half-time when Emily Coleman finished after some great solo work.
The sides could not be separated, but Mayo did enough to get their first point of the year ahead of a trip to Longford Town this weekend.
Mayo’s U-15 boys were less fortunate, shipping a 3-0 away defeat to Treaty United over the weekend.
