Galway 1
C Crowe 90+5

A goal six minutes into stoppage time denied Mayo back-to-back victories over Galway in the Oscar Traynor Cup on Sunday afternoon. It was a cruel blow for the home side who had defended well under siege for most of the match. In the end, it was a set piece that was their undoing; this being Galway’s main threat all day.
Mayo had a glorious chance to close this one out; but TJ Forde in the Galway goal bravely denied Ben Edeh in a one-on-one on fifty-seven minutes.
The Ballyheane man had put Mayo in front twenty-five minutes in following poor Galway defending. But Galway had chances too, mainly from set pieces where Padraic Cunningham, Aaron Neary and Nathan Ward were a constant threat. Galway’s goal came at the death when Calyn Crowe finished a scramble to level it.
The Mayo defence was excellent throughout. Ioseph O’Reilly made a number of well-timed tackles in the box, and Cathal Coyne restricted Cunningham to scraps. Another Cunningham, Mayo’s Mark, did a good job on Galway danger-man, Kody McCann.
A draw was probably a fair result and Mayo lead the group on goal difference.
