Lack of referees begins to bite for the Mayo Football League

Experience Mayo soccer referee Damien McGrath had no sideline officials during the Mayo Super League meeting of Ballinrobe Town and Claremorris

THE lack of referees in the Mayo League was highlighted starkly on Saturday evening when officials were unable to supply referee’s assistants for the Super League game between Claremorris and Ballinrobe Town.

Damien McGrath had to handle the fixture on his own. He’s well able, of course; he’s probably the top referee in the country. But that’s not the point.

There were six matches running simultaneously on Saturday and only one of those was a Super League fixture.
