THE Manulla ladies suffered heartache this afternoon after they lost their third successive  Connacht Women's Cup Final.

The gale-force wind made for difficult playing conditions in Umbro Park, in Milebush and the teams were deadlocked at 1-1 for much of the game.

However, a superb goal from Rachel Barrett in the 87th minute secured Corrib Celtic their first-ever Connacht Cup title.

The Galway side were first on the scoreboard. With minutes 18 minutes played, a cross-in from striker Joy Erugo was mishandled by the Manulla goalkeeper, and subsequently toe-poked in by Ciara Fahy, to give Corrib Celtic the lead.

However, Manulla quickly got a foothold in the game. With 29 minutes played, Manulla Midfielder, Katie Gibbons, played an inch-perfect pass through to Tracey Hall.

The ex-Mayo Gaelic footballer made no mistakes and slotted the ball into the back of the net to level the game.

The second half was mainly played in Manulla's half. Their Galway opponents applied mountains of pressure in their long search for a winner.

Despite struggling to get out of their half, Manulla had the best chance of the second period with 79 minutes on the clock.

Tara Ryan broke free from the Corrib Celtic defence to get herself one-on-one with the keeper but could not find the back of the net.

With 87 minutes played, up stepped Corrib Celtic midfielder Rachel Barrett.

Barrett took a brave shot from almost 50 yards out, as all the Corrib Celtic fans who had travelled to Milebush held their breath. The ball flew into the top right-hand corner of the net, giving the Manulla goalkeeper no chance.

Manulla searched for an equaliser but quickly ran out of time and Corrib Celtic were confirmed as Connacht Champions for the first time in their history.

Heartbreak for Manulla once more.
