KATHLEEN Diskin, Carras, Hollymount, Mayo, RIP

KATHLEEN Diskin, Carras, Hollymount, Mayo, who died recently in the kind care of the staff at Hollymount Nursing Home, was formerly McManus from Churchpark, Ballyhaunis. She was in her 98th year.

Kathleen and her late husband John ran a well stocked farm in Carras and there was always a warm welcome for neighbours and friends.

They worked hard on the land taking care of the livestock and all the regular chores that were such a part of the farming scene back in those times.

Neighbours recall times spent in their company and enjoying Kathleen’s fine baking skills. The news of the day and stories of old blended nicely together for the homely chats that were such a part of rural life back then.

Kathleen had spent several years in the kind care of the staff at Hollymount Nursing Home where she was a real favourite.

A post from the staff stated: “Kathleen always a lady and she will be missed so much for her fun style and smile. She was the last one of the old stock.”

Sr Mary Corr, Tuam, said she had fond memories of Kathleen and her sister Alice visiting their uncle, aunt and brother next door and often called in for a chat. “Kathleen was a gentle caring lady,” added Sr Mary.

Reposing was at Roundfort Community Funeral Home and interment took place in Roundfort cemetery following Requiem Mass in St Joseph’s Church, Carras.

Kathleen, who was predeceased by her husband John, her brothers Michael and Paddy and her sister Alice, will be sadly missed by her brothers Tom and Jim, sisters-in-law Bernadette and Alacoque, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbours and friends.
