Eight players from Newport Pickleball Club entered the Pickleball Kukri Irish Nationals 2025 – Doubles Competition, held in Lisburn November 6-9.

Players competed in 50+ ladies’ and mixed doubles, 60+ ladies, and men’s doubles and mixed doubles and 70+ mixed doubles. They played 42 matches over the four days.

Louise Staines and Sarah Coyle won national bronze medals in the 60+ ladies doubles, after a very hard-fought round robin and two subsequent knock out rounds – congratulations.

Newport Pickleball Club also entered a team into the inaugural Irish National Pickleball Club Championship Team event, held in Lisburn on Thursday night, November 6. This new format involved rally scoring and cumulative points with a winner-takes-all trophy.

The Newport team for the 60+Open was Russell Poole (Captain), Simon Hoe, Sarah Coyle, Louise Staines, Sue Steer, and Jackie Kilroy.

The team competed in ladies and men’s doubles and mixed doubles against Ards, Belfast and Bluestacks Donegal.

Glory for Newport wasn't to be, but some excellent games in an atmosphere of great sportsmanship and camaraderie. Lisburn won the final beating Ards. Sabina Cox and Sarah Wood also competed in individual events.
