It may have been a rainy day for Mayo horse-racing enthusiasts at the final meeting of the 2025 racing calendar at Ballinrobe Racecourse, but one suspects that the Mayo GAA Senior coach, Paddy Tally, won't be too put off by the rain, as his horse won big on the first race of the day.

Tally, who recently came into the Mayo fold under new manager Andy Moran, is part of the syndicate that owns Sopelana. The syndicate, 'Tally's Bar Syndicate', is named after the former Tyrone footballer's pub in his hometown of Galbally.

He isn't the only famous face involved in the syndicate, though, as TV personality Hector O'hEochagain also has a stake in the horse.

The Jordan Gainford-rode horse put in a winning showing at the first run of the day, and there's a packed five-race card ahead of the final race at 7.30 pm.
