McDonald's have submitted plans to develop a drive-thru restaurant in Claremorris

FAST-food giant McDonald's have applied for planning permission to open their second drive-thru fast-food restaurant in Mayo.

McDonald's Restaurants of Ireland Ltd have applied for planning permission to Mayo County Council to construct a single storey drive-thru restaurant on lands adjoining Silverbridge Plaza and Shopping Centre, Knock Road, Claremorris.

The only other McDonald's restaurant located in Mayo is in Castlebar which opened its doors in 1998 and also includes a drive-thru.

McDonald's Restaurants of Ireland Ltd is the entity that operates McDonald's restaurants in the Republic of Ireland, managing the brand's operations and over 95 restaurants, which are run by franchisees.

The proposed development for Claremorris will also include the ancillary sale of hot food for consumption off the premises with an associated corral area and car parking including accessible parking spaces, grill bays, EV charging spaces and bicycle parking.

A new vehicular access via the Silverbridge Plaza car park and associated reconfiguration of the car park’s circulation route will be part of the development along with a new footpath and zebra crossing to the Silverbridge Shopping Centre, upgrade works to existing footpath on Knock Road,

The applicant has also applied for planning permission to include a height restrictor, customer order points with associated canopies, totem signage, free-standing signage, banner frames and digital menu boards, plant and PV panels at roof level, ESB substation and kiosk while landscaping is to include outdoor furniture/seating area with parasols.
