This e-scooter was travelling over double the legal speed limit
An Garda Siochana are currently trialling new equipment around the country to test the safety of e-scooters and e-bikes.
Gardai are now using a device called a dynamometer which measures the maximum speed that an e-scooter or bike is capable of travelling, and this e-scooter has lost his as a result!
Since May 2024 new regulations have been brought out in Ireland around the use of e-scooters, in particular the maximum speed one should be allowed to travel at.
For an e-bike, the maximum speed should be 25km/h and for an e-scooter it is no more than 20km/h.
"If an e-scooter or an e-bike comes across one of our check-points and is tested using one of these dynamometers, and is found to be over the limit, it can be seized immediately and a fixed charge notice can be issued," An Garda Siochana said.

In the video above, an Garda siochana are at a check-point with a dynamometer to check the safety of e-scooters and e-bikes.
The Garda in the video is heard saying: "You are aware that the exceeded limit is 20km/h?" to an e-scooter user while their scooter is being tested on.
The e-scooter in the video was seized because it was capable of driving 46km/h, over double the legal limit.
