Arrest made after unaccompanied learner driver fails roadside drug test

Gardaí on patrol of the M8 near Watergrasshill in Cork on Tuesday detected a motorist driving above the speed limit.

When pulled over, Gardaí soon realised she was an unaccompanied learner driver who then failed a roadside drug test.

The driver was subsequently arrested.

An Garda Síochána routinely warn motorists of the dangerous of driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

In a post on X, Gardaí said,

"Cocaine and driving are a toxic combo. It increases impulsive tendencies to take more risks, distorts your judgement, and impairs your ability to concentrate and react.

"This festive season make the right choice so that you safely make it home to your loved ones."
