Man arrested and charged after elderly woman dies following Donegal crash

A man has been arrested and charged following a fatal road crash in County Donegal at the weekend.

A woman, aged in her eighties, died at Sligo University Hospital on Wednesday as a result of injuries sustained in the road traffic collision which happened at Inver on Sunday morning.

Elizabeth Cave, née Coburn, of St Ernan’s, Donegal Town was one of three people injured in the collision which took place on the N56 at Inver Glebe shortly before 9am on Sunday.

In an update, issued this Wednesday night, gardai confirmed a man in his 50s has been arrested and charged by investigating gardaí. He is due to appear before a sitting of Letterkenny District Court on Thursday morning.

Two other people - a man in his fifties and a woman in her forties - were taken to Letterkenny University Hospital for treatment following the crash.

Their injuries which are believed to be non life-threatening.

Gardai say investigations are ongoing.
