Paul Mescal's mother shares a health update amid ongoing cancer battle

Multi-award winning actor and Oscar nominee Paul Mescal's mother has shared a health update amid her ongoing cancer battle.

Dearbhla Mescal is mother of world-renowned actor Paul, and has garnered a social media following of her own, where she documents her health journey.

This Wednesday, she shared a positive health update with her Instagram followers, saying: "My immune system is on the up & my energy is climbing".

The mother of the Mescal family, who hail from Kildare, was diagnosed with a form of bone marrow cancer called multiple myeloma in 2022.

She said: "This day last year I came home from the most incredible Berkitt Ward at St James’ Hospital following my stemcell transplant. I continue on my journey with the amazing team in Unit 6 at The Beacon Hospital. I am blessed beyond words. I cannot believe where I am, where I’ve been & most excitingly where I am going."

55-year-old Dearbhla's diagnosis became public knowledge in January 2023, after her eldest son Paul landed his first Oscar nomination.

Paul later made a loving tribute to his mother on the global stage as he accepted the Best Actor award at the Olivier Awards for his stage performance as Stanley in A Streetcar Named Desire.

In his acceptance speech, Paul thanked his parents and wished his mum well, saying: “I hope you get better”.
