THERE was good news for racegoers in Mayo today with the news that Ballinrobe Racecourse has been allocated an extra Friday meeting for the 2025 season.

Next year will see racing take place at Mayo's only racecourse on Fridays in both April and May. The season gets underway with a meeting on Friday, April 11 and in a new departure, a Friday meeting will take place in May, on Friday, May 9.

The 2024 racing season ended just recently at Ballinrobe on Friday, September 13 ,when a huge crowd was in attendance despite unfavourably weather conditions.

The course was named as Racecourse of the Year for 2024 and punters will now be pencilling in the following ten dates for racing in 2025:

Friday, April 11

Friday, May 9

Monday, May 26

Tuesday, May 27

Monday, June 23

Monday, July 21

Tuesday, July 22

Monday, August 11

Monday, August 25

Friday, September 12

Releasing the fixture for the 2025 racing season, Kilmaine native Jonathan Mullin, HRI’s Director of Racing, said: “The number of horses in training in Ireland this year remain at similar levels to 2023 and therefore it was felt prudent not to increase the number of fixtures for 2025. The fixture list process for 2025 involved consultation with a wide variety of industry stakeholders and we acknowledge their strong engagement throughout. In particular, given the need to produce a ‘shadow’ 2025 fixture list to accommodate the planned development of an All-Weather Track at Tipperary, we thank the racecourses for their considerable contributions.”

A total of 395 race meetings are scheduled to take place in 2025.
