Connacht Hurling League Semi-final

Mayo 0-23 Roscommon 1-16

THE Mayo hurlers will meet either Roscommon or Galway in this weekend's Connacht Hurling League final after seeing off Roscommon by four points in the University of Galway Air Dome at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence this evening.

Ten points (6 frees) from Michael Farrell saw an experimental Mayo team prevail in a contest where Roscommon were in it right until the finish.

With several key Tooreen players still absent since their All-Ireland club semi-final, Mayo relied on the Ballyhaunis contingent for scores, with the aforementioned Farrell, Cormac Phillips (6 frees) and Adrian Phillips (0-4) getting all but three of their scores.

Moytura's John Heraty was among Mayo's top performers, hitting a crucial score to settle things for Mayo in the dying moments.

Several players from clubs in the St Ciarán's amalgamation, which contested the Mayo Senior Hurling Championship, all featured in Ray Larkin and Brian Finn's first game as Mayo managers.

Mayo will meet the winners of New York and Galway's development squad in the Connacht Hurling League final on Saturday.
