A Mayo TD has welcomed a generous donation of €32m by Limerick businessperson, JP McManus, to be divided equally between every GAA county board across the country.

Alan Dillon, TD, himself a former All-Star winning footballer, praised Mr McManus for the generous donation stating it will be very valuable to each county in every corner of Ireland.

“This is an extraordinarily generous donation which follows on from his donation of €3.2m in 2018. At that stage, he donated €100,000 to each of the 32 counties.

“Mayo GAA are set to receive an extraordinary donation of €1m, which will be a significant boost and is to be evenly divided and distributed to clubs across GAA, Camogie and Ladies Gaelic Football in the county.”

In his letter to clubs, Mr McManus, through the JP McManus Charitable Foundation, who is the official sponsor of Limerick GAA, stated: “My family and I greatly value the spirit and meaning of community and our GAA, Camogie and Ladies Gaelic Football Clubs, who are at the heart of communities right throughout the island.”

Deputy Dillon, who is the vice-chairperson of the Oireachtas Committee on Sport, said: “This latest gift to our GAA clubs is ten times what they received five years ago. This is a fantastic gesture from a man who has always been a huge supporter of our games. This funding will help counties to invest in the development of the games, improve facilities and assist teams in reaching the next levels.”
Dillon, said: “I would like to thank JP, Noreen and all the McManus family for this exceptional donation and for his unwavering commitment to the success of the GAA.”
