The “Bándearg” exhibition will open at Books At One, showcasing contemporary works by five Irish female artists.
A striking new contemporary art exhibition exploring the symbolism and strength of the colour pink is set to open in Louisburgh, Co Mayo later this month.
Titled “Bándearg”, the exhibition will launch at Books At One on Saturday, April 18, and will run until May 13, bringing together the work of five female artists based across Ireland.
The exhibition features artists Olivia Jones, Tina Poole, Anna Marie Savage, Nickie Harrington and Maria Mollohan, each offering a unique interpretation of pink as both a physical medium and a cultural symbol.
Traditionally associated with softness and innocence, the exhibition seeks to challenge and redefine these ideas, presenting pink as a colour of strength, resistance and emotional depth.
Through a range of artistic styles—from geometric precision to fluid, nature-inspired abstraction—the collection explores the tension between surface and substance, combining bold visual statements with more subtle, atmospheric works.

Lisa Murphy, manager of Books At One, said the exhibition promises to be a vibrant addition to the local arts scene.
“The energy and focus on pink by this group of artists really stood out,” she said. “I can’t wait to see these works displayed in our gallery space.”
The participating artists bring a wide range of influences and techniques to the exhibition. From architectural-inspired compositions and abstract expression to ecological themes and contemporary printmaking, the collection reflects a diverse and dynamic approach to modern Irish art.
Books At One, a well-known creative hub in Louisburgh, continues to play an important role in supporting both literature and the visual arts in the region through community engagement and curated exhibitions.
The opening reception will take place on Saturday, April 18 at 6pm, with members of the public invited to attend and experience the exhibition.
Organisers say “Bándearg” offers a unique opportunity to engage with contemporary art while celebrating creativity and fresh perspectives in the west of Ireland.
