Riverside in Swinford, Co Mayo will be designated a sensory-friendly “Silent Street” during this year’s Swinford St Patrick’s Day Parade.
Organisers of the annual Swinford St Patrick’s Day Parade have announced a new sensory-friendly “Silent Street” area this year, aimed at making the event more inclusive for everyone in the community.
The initiative will see Riverside designated as a quieter section of the parade route, offering a calm viewing space for those who may benefit from a lower-noise environment.
The sensory-friendly area has been designed with people who have sensory sensitivities in mind, including neurodivergent individuals, families with young children and anyone who may find loud sounds or crowded spaces overwhelming.
During the parade, the Riverside section will avoid loud music and sirens, creating a more relaxed atmosphere while still allowing spectators to enjoy the celebration.
Organisers say the move reflects a growing effort to make community events more accessible and welcoming.

Members of the public are being encouraged to come along with family and friends and enjoy the parade in the inclusive environment provided along Riverside.
The introduction of the Silent Street aims to ensure that everyone can experience the magic of the parade in a way that suits them.
