Mayo man Charlie Ward and his wife, Christina
A fundraiser has been launched to support a Mayo man who spent four weeks in a coma after suffering life-threatening brain injuries.
Father-of-three Charlie Ward is unable to return to work for the foreseeable future due to injuries he suffered after he collapsed and fell at home on January 26.
While being cared for in Beaumont Hospital, Mr Ward underwent two major brain surgeries and battled severe pneumonia.
After four weeks in a coma, he awoke and recognised his wife, Christina. He eventually began to speak and take his first steps.
Now being cared for in a rehabilitation facility at Merlin Park Hospital, he continues to face challenges, including left-sided neglect, where his brain struggles to register the left side of his body.
His wife Christina is caring for him full time while looking after their three young children Melanie, Archie, and baby Jessica.
