Mayo records huge EV registration increase compared to 2024

Mayo has recorded a significant surge in the number of new electric cars being registered, according to figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry.

The figures reveal that the number of EVs registered between January and March of 2025 increased by 35 from the same period last year.

The rise from 76 to 111 represents a 46.05 per cent jump, a figure which surpasses the national rate of 25.8 per cent.

Mayo has accounted for 1.79 per cent of total electric car registrations in 2025. The county accounts for 1.11 per cent of overall car registrations nationwide.

The total number of cars in the county has increased on last year. Between January and March 2024, 1069 cars were registered. So far this year, that figure has gone up to 1,089, representing a 6.8 percent increase.
