Shane Gallagher and Tiernan Moyles from Achill raised over €14,000 for Mayo Roscommon Hospice by organising the Achill Agri Festive Run
A tractor run organised by two fifteen-year-olds has raised over €14,000 for the Mayo Roscommon Hospice.
The tractor run, organised by Shane Gallagher and Tiernan Moyles from Achill, saw a convoy of over 90 vehicles parade through Achill for a colourful event that drew large crowds to the island.
The boys organised the tractor run in memory of Tiernan’s uncle, John Toolis, and Shane’s grandfather, Vincent Gallagher, who passed away in the care of Mayo Roscommon Hospice.
Over €14,000 has been raised for the Mayo Roscommon Hospice so far, including €10,000 which has been raised through iDonate.
Speaking after the event, Shane said his grandfather, who loved tractors, received ‘exceptional care’ during a hard time for his family.
Tiernan said his uncle was afforded ‘great dignity, comfort and peace in his final days’ in the hospice.
In a post on Facebook, the organisers of the Achill Agri Festive Run said they were ‘overwhelmed’ by the support for the fundraiser. They also extended thanks to all who attended and who supported the event.
All funds raised will go directly towards the Mayo Roscommon Hospice, which provides palliative care services at its Castlebar and Roscommon facilities.
You can still donate to the Achill Agri Festive Run fundraiser online.
