A defibrillator that was vandalised on the summit of Croagh Patrick is to be replaced today.

The life-saving device - one of three installed on the mountain - was vandalised recently and is due to be repaired.

A new unit donated by Oxygen Care will be used until the old unit is repaired.

Several individuals and voluntary organisations came forward to offer their assistance after the defibrillator was damaged.

Manufactured by Eco Powered Cabinets, numerous similar units have been installed at locations around Mayo.

Each unit is weatherproof and solar-powered and be accessed by first responders all year round.

“We are blown away with the amount of support received since,” Darren Forde, CEO and founder of  Eco Powered Cabinets, told The Mayo News.

The defibrillators have been used for a number of medical emergencies on Croagh Patrick since being installed there last year.
