Minister of State Dara Calleary last week performed the official opening of the new Aran Woolen Mills knitwear manufacturing plant in Belmullet.

Founded in 1965 by Máire and Padraig Hughes, Aran Woollen Mills has remained steadfast in its mission to share premium, heritage Aran products with the world while fostering local employment.

Under the leadership of their sons, Pat and Vincent Hughes, the family-owned business has evolved into a global leader in traditional and contemporary Aran knitwear manufacturing, delighting new audiences with its diverse range of products. This is their second manufacturing plant in Mayo, with the first based at the brand’s head office in Westport.

Thanks to the support of Udarás and Enterpise Ireland, this additional facility will employ up to 80 staff in the coming years, and will allow Aran Woollen Mills to keep up with the ever-growing international demand for our Made in Ireland products.
