PEOPLE have flocked from far and wide to Westport to see Paddington Bear since he arrived at the Fairgreen.
That was the message from local county councillor Brendan Mulroy, who described the erection of the Paddington Bear statue as ‘a fantastic addition to Westport’.
The statue is one of 23 that were unveiled throughout Ireland and the United Kingdom as part of the ‘Paddington Visits’ campaign to promote the new Paddington film, ‘Paddington in Peru’.
“He’s hit all the national newspapers, he’s been on national television, he’s brought people right into Westport from across the county and across Connacht, and only for the bad weather over the weekend there’d be queues of people waiting to see him,” Cllr Mulroy told the October meeting of Westport-Belmullet Municipal District.
“It’s been a fantastic addition to Westport and people are wondering how long he will be left here.”
Earlier this month, a crowd of over 50 people attended the official unveiling of the Paddington Bear statue, which has remained a popular attraction ever since.
