The most popular Halloween movie in Mayo was released in 2017

Mayo’s most loved Halloween movies have been revealed.

‘It’ took the top spot as the county's favourite Halloween movie with over 1240 searches. 

The 2017 supernatural horror film, based on the 1986 same title book by Stephen King and directed by Andy Muschietti.

The story follows a group of children in the town of Derry in Maine, who face a shape-shifting monster, often appearing as Pennywise the Clown. Years later, they reunite as adults to confront the creature again.

Three movies featuring in the top ten list were released between 1973-1999, including ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’, and ‘Alien’.

The new study conducted by Virgin Media Ireland compiled the top 50 highest-grossing horror movies and analysed their monthly Google search volume during the month of October since 2020. By doing this, they've identified the films that Irish audiences turn to get into the Halloween spirit.  

‘It’ was joined in the top three rankings by ‘The Conjuring’ with 1090 monthly searches during October, and ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ with 850 searches.
