The funding will go towards a range of festive initiatives
Funding of €50,000 for Mayo Christmas events has been confirmed.
The sum will support Christmas events and initiatives across the county.
Minister of State for Planning and Local Government, Alan Dillon TD confirmed the allocation today.
The funding is aimed at creating a festive atmosphere in rural towns and villages, thereby encouraging people to shop local and support their town centres in the run-up to Christmas.
Mayo County Council will divide the allocation equally across the four Municipal Districts, and 14 Mayo towns, for a range of initiatives to include Christmas lights, outdoor movies, Christmas markets and a Christmas train.
Announcing the final allocations today, Minister Dillon said he is ‘delighted’ with the response. “Christmas is a special time of year for every community. I am delighted my department received a very positive response to this ‘Christmas Support’ proposal, and such a number of local initiatives were put forward for funding.”
