National Broadband Ireland (NBI) are rolling out the plan

One-thoussand Mayo properties in its National Broadband Ireland’s (NBI) Glenamoy deployment area can now order and pre-order a high-speed fibre broadband connection.

The company delivering the high-speed Fibre-to-the-Home network under the National Broadband Plan (NBP) will connect the rural townlands surrounding Glenamoy, Knockadaff and Muingnabo.

Thirty-seven-thousand premises in Mayo included in the State’s Intervention Area will see NBI deliver minimum speeds of 500 megabits per second to homes, businesses, farms, and schools.

As the biggest investment in rural Ireland since rural electrification, the county will receive a €145 million Government investment under the National Broadband Plan.

There are 1,019 Mayo premises in the Glenamoy deployment area that can now join the NBI network.

Network build works are also continuing across Mayo, with works in progress for almost 1,600 premises on Achill Island, which are due to be connected between January and March next year.

100 year-old Mayo woman, Bridget Joyce, is connected to NBI’s fibre network

Over 11,000 Mayo properties are now availing of the high-speed, broadband with 3,046 connections made to the NBI network so far, including 100-year-old, Bridget Joyce.

Peter Hendrick, Chief Executive Officer, National Broadband Ireland, said they are ‘delighted’ to announce the advancement.

“This will enable those who connect to experience the life-changing benefits of high-speed broadband with minimum speeds of 500 megabits per second,” he added.

National Broadband Ireland is calling on people living nearby to see the map on the NBI’s website and enter their Eircode to see if they are ready to connect.
