This unmissable Halloween event is back in the historic Military Barracks in Castlebar for the October Bank Holiday, promising thrills and chills for every brave soul, from ages 12 to 90!

This year’s Horror in the Barracks promises to deliver even more scares, heart-pounding moments, and eerie surprises as you explore the dark and haunted corners of the iconic Castlebar Barracks. Whether you're 12 or 90, Horror in the Barracks is a Halloween experience like no other – one that’s equally fun for adults as it is for the younger crowd. Come see for yourself why this community-led event has established itself as a beloved tradition, year after year.

Here’s the line-up for 2024:

  • Friday, October 25, from 7 pm to 8.45pm: The spooky fun kicks off with a full haunted show designed for adults and children ages 12 and up. Get ready to scream, laugh, and feel the thrill as you experience the frights hidden within the barracks!

  • Saturday, October 26, from 6pm to 8.45pm: The scares continue with another spooky show. Another unforgettable night of laughter, screams, and thrills that will have your heart racing as you encounter the chilling surprises lurking in the shadows, no matter what age you are!

  • Sunday, October 27: A full day of eerie activities awaits:

    • 5pm to 7pm: A family-friendly spooky experience designed for children under 12, accompanied by an adult. Perfect for little ones who love a good scare – but not too much!

    • 7 pm to 8.45pm: A return to the full scare-fest for children over 12 and adults alike. Bring your courage and maybe even a friend to cling to!

  • Bank Holiday Monday, October 28 from 2pm to 5pm.: A special event for Mayo Autism Camp.

What makes Horror In The Barracks even more special? This frightfully good time is completely volunteer-run, with all proceeds supporting vital local community initiatives and this year the two main beneficiaries are Mayo Autism Camp and Down Syndrome Mayo.

  • Ballyheane Community Council

  • Breaffy LGFA

  • Castlebar Autism Friendly Town

  • St Joseph’s Secondary School
