Science Week takes place from November 10-17
Mayo’s Circus Science by the Sea Festival is set to receive €31,625 in funding.
The funding comes as over €800,000 has been allocated for Science Week 2024 festivals and events nationwide.
Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Patrick O’Donovan TD announced the funding as he officially launched Science Week 2024, with the theme ‘Regenration’.
Taking place across Ireland from November 10-17, Science Week is a national celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), with hundreds of events for people of all ages.
Mayo events will be spread across Achill Island, Curraun, Westport, and Mulranny.
Minister Dillon referred to Science Week a ‘much-anticipated calendar highlight’ for both children and adults, as well as ‘a great opportunity for people to engage with science and research through fun, engaging and interactive events’.
He added: “I am delighted to see funding has been made available to two popular festivals in County Mayo, ensuring they can continue their excellent work in making science accessible and exciting for the local and wider community.”
From protecting the environment and promoting sustainable energy, to driving technological innovation and developing new ways to improve our health, the Fine Gael general election candidate explained how science plays an integral role in our everyday lives.
“I’m encouraging everyone to take part in Science Week, by attending a festival or event and getting involved in the stimulating activities on offer during the week.” Minister Dillon concluded.
His fellow party general election candidate, Keira Keogh was ‘delighted’ to hear of the funding allocation.
“I’m especially excited to see that Mayo's very own Circus Science by the Sea Festival has received €31,625 in funding. This investment will help bring a fantastic line-up of activities to communities across our region.”
