This is the second year of the scheme
The free Schoolbooks and Resources Scheme will ease the financial burden on parents, according to Minister Dara Calleary.
The local Fianna Fáil welcomed the launch of the second year of the scheme, which provides free schoolbooks and resources for over 550,000 children nationwide. The scheme was launched today by the Minister for Education Norma Foley.
Over 3,000 primary schools and special schools around the country will benefit from the scheme, and now in the scheme's second year, junior cycle students are also covered.
Just recently, Minister of State Alan Dillon said it is ‘crucial’ for the scheme to be extended into senior cycle education.
"This initiative goes beyond just economic relief; it ensures that every student in Mayo, no matter their background, has access to necessary educational resources. This kind of equality in the classroom enhances the learning experience for everyone,” commented the Fine Gael TD.
Minister Calleary said: “Preparation for the school year can be a busy time, and it can put a lot of financial burden on parents and guardians. It’s important for them to know that the support is there for them from a government level.”
“We boast one of the best educational systems across Europe, and this scheme can further enhance a pupil’s educational experience and allow them to thrive in an educational environment. This will then allow them to reach their full potential,” he concluded.
