New Mayo book club launches to enthusiastic reception

The Greenway Cocktail Bar in Heweston's hosts Westport new book club.

Last week saw the successful launch of a new and exciting book club, 'The Cocktail Chronicles with Keira', which brought together 23 enthusiastic book lovers in the Greenway Cocktail Lounge, located upstairs at Hewetson's, Westport.
The book club, spearheaded by Keira Keogh, aims to bring readers together every fortnight in a relaxed, social setting. The idea behind the club is simple: every month, the group will partner with a different local bookshop, giving members a chance to discover new reads while also championing local retailers. At the first meeting, attendees dived into 'The Marriage Portrait' by Maggie O'Farrell, with books purchased in The Bookshop on Bridge Street.
“I’m hoping this book club becomes a cosy, regular hobby for people as we head into autumn and winter,” said Keira. “It’s all about motivating people to read more and explore different kinds of books, while enjoying some great company and making new friends.”
Hewetsons, known for its welcoming atmosphere and tasty cocktails, generously provided the space for the book club and curated a special drinks menu to complement the evening's discussions.
The next meeting of 'The Cocktail Chronicles with Keira' is scheduled for Wednesday, August 28 at 8pm, where attendees will delve deeper into 'The Marriage Portrait'. In September, the club will support McLoughlin's Bookshop on Shop Street with Colm Tóibín's much-anticipated novel 'Long Island', the sequel to his acclaimed work 'Brooklyn'. October's selection will come from Tertulia Bookshop on The Quay, further expanding the club’s reach into the community.
If you’d like to join in, there’s no need to RSVP - just show up and enjoy! For more details, you can reach out to Keira on Instagram (@keirakeogh), via email at keira.keogh@gmail.com, or by phone at 0876833008. Come by, grab a cocktail, and get reading!
