The Mayo Nose of Tralee, Holly

Louisburgh dog, Holly, is Mayo’s entry for Pet Sitters annual Nose of Tralee competition.

The Saluki Lurcher was voted to be the Mayo Nose in June, and now, she is looking for your vote to be crowned the winner of the contest, which is sponsored by Tesco.

Speaking to The Mayo News, Holly’s owner Louise O’Toole called the competition, ‘a bit of fun’.

“The competition is ran by Pet Sitters Ireland, they are a company that offers pet sitting and they run this competition every year. It’s a virtual dog version of the Rose of Tralee essentially. It’s just a bit of fun really,” she explained.

The Nose of Tralee, now in its eleventh year, is Ireland’s largest pet competition and is open to all types of pets.

The competition is described by organisers as an opportunity to ‘celebrate the love that people have for their animals’.

The winner not only takes the prestigious honour of being the Nose of Tralee for the year, but a €250 pet sitting and dog walking voucher, a photo shoot with David MaCauley Photography, and a €500 Tesco Voucher.

“I put Holly into it last yeart too, for a bit of craic, she didn’t win it, but this year, she is now the Mayo Nose,” said Ms O’Toole.

“I saw it on Facebook, and I do think Holly is a very pretty dog. We have done a photoshoot recently, she was in Galway and an artisitic photographer (Enda Burke) came over and asked could he photograph her, and she does take a nice photo. Her story is quite nice as well, she came from NWSPA in Ballina and she’s a very nervous girl, very nervous with men, and she's really come a long way.”

She continued: “I work in MADRA in Galway, the dog rescue, and she’s just started coming to work with me recently too, so it’s just kind of nice she’s really come out of her shell and I just thought it would be nice for her.”

Voting for the Nose of Tralee is now open and will conclude on August 19.

“People can vote on the pet-sitters website, the link will bring you to Holly’s page, and when you scroll down there’s a little love heart, and you just click on that, and that’s you voting. You can vote everyday on your phone and laptop until August 19,” said the proud owner.

The Nose of Tralee winner will be announced via their social media pages at 5pm on August 20.

You can vote for Holly on the Pet Sitters Ireland website now.
