BROWN bread makers in Mayo are being invited to enter the prestigious National Brown Bread Baking Competition, which opens for entries this Friday.
Euronics, along with the National Ploughing Association (NPA) and the Irish Countrywomen’s Association (ICA), are encouraging bakers from Mayo to enter this year’s National Brown Bread Baking Competition by dropping off their home-baked bread at the following locations this Friday, August 2 from 09.00 – 11.00 am; Keans Claremorris, Mount Street, Clare, Claremorris, F12 Y642, Brodericks Westport, 5 Castlebar Road, Westport.
The winning recipe will be chosen at the National Ploughing Championships, where the baker will walk away with a cash prize of €5,000 and a NEFF oven. The three finalists will all walk away with a €500 Euronics gift card.
Last year's competition was won by Mayo woman Loretta Maguire, who has had her winning recipe sold on shelves at ALDI stores nationwide.
The first National Brown Bread Baking took place at the National Ploughing Championships in 1954 and remains as popular as ever.
This year's final takes place on September 19 at the National Ploughing Championships in Ratheniska, Co Laois.
