Genfitt stalls plans to re-locate from Kiltimagh premises

Genfitt to continue operating in existing facility after plans to move operations to new location scrapped

Genfitt stalls plans to re-locate from Kiltimagh premises

ONE of Kiltimagh's biggest employers has announced that it will continue operating from its current facility in the East Mayo town.

Genfitt, who are owned by Kramp Group, had previously said that they were seeking to establish a new premises in Mayo to expand their operations.

However, the company has today (Tuesday) stated that they will continue operating in their existing premises on the Knock Road in Kiltimagh, where it employees over 60 staff.

“The consequence of this decision is that we will continue operating from our current facility in Kiltimagh”, said Ronan Egan, Commercial Director of Genfitt.

“Staying in the current location allows us to strategically allocate resources to optimise our operations and prepare for future opportunities that align with our growth ambitions”.

Genfitt was set up in Kiltimagh in 1973 and is one of the country’s largest independent wholesale suppliers of agricultural components, machinery parts and spares.

In the summer of 2023, the company was acquired by Kramp Group, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of agricultural components.

Fears had been expressed locally about the potential damage to the local economy if the company moved its operations from Kiltimagh.

A number of local retained firefighters - who must remain within a certain distance of their station - are currently working in Genfitt due to its proximity to the local fire station

Local county councillor, Adrian Forkan, welcomed the news that Genfitt intended to continue using their existing premises.

Cllr Forkan said that the council should try and identify a suitable site near the existing facility should the company decide to expand its operations.

“As a town we have to kind of look at if they do decide to expand or generate in the future, rolling out more jobs in the town, we have to look at ways of keeping Genfitt in the town,” the Fianna Fáil councillor said.

“Now is the time to start looking for a site for them down the road if they do expand or build a full new warehouse. It needs to be in Kiltimagh. We need to start looking at that now.”

Cllr Forkan said that Genfitt’s departure from the area would have been ‘a huge loss’ to Kiltimagh.

“We also need further jobs in Kiltimagh whether it’s through Genfitt or other means which we will also be looking at, we need further employment in Kiltimagh, we need to keep people in the town to keep the town viable and that’s very important,” he added.
