Mayo Greens react to Eamon Ryan's shock resignation

Mayo chairperson Bríd Conroy hails Ryan's contribution to "protect the environment for the Irish people"

Mayo Greens react to Eamon Ryan's shock resignation

Outgoing Green party leader Eamon Ryan with Peter Nolan from Westport and Mayo Greens Chairperson, Brid Conroy.

Eamon Ryan's decision to step down as leader of the Green Party was a surprise to many. While Mayo native Pippa Hackett is tipped to run for leadership as the Mayo News understands, members of the Green party in Mayo have reacted to Eamon Ryan leaving:

Brid Conroy, Chair of the Mayo Green Party commented: "Mayo Greens are sad to hear news of his departure and grateful for the contribution he has made in raising awareness of climate breakdown and in finding solutions that will ultimately benefit and protect the environment for the Irish people. Also that in his term in government, he had ensured the mainstreaming of climate into government departments and policies into the future. He also made an enormous contribution to the International and Europe stage."
And former local election candidate for the Green Party, Peter Nolan, added: "As one of Co Mayo's 400-plus organic farmers I have directly benefited from schemes introduced by Eamon Ryan and the Green Party. Schemes like ACRES and Forestry are vital to safeguarding Ireland's good quality food, air and water - all to the benefit of the farming community. Eamon is right when he says we have a job to do in convincing rural Mayo that the Greens are on their side. We are and we always will be. We are grateful to the people of Mayo who voted Green recently, the first time 2 candidates have run in the locals. We will continue to work to protect the environment for the people of Mayo."
