Ireland West Airport, in partnership with Portwest, has announced the return of the hugely popular annual five kilometre runway fun run.

Now, in its seventh year, the run will take place on the runway at Ireland West Airport on Saturday, September 14 at 6:30pm.

Runners and walkers will take off down the runway at 6:30pm and complete the course with a difference.

Commenting at the launch of the runway fun run, Managing Director, Ireland West Airport, Joe Gilmore, said: “It’s always a fantastic event which raises over €20,000 every year for our charity partners. The airport is delighted to be partnering with six new charities this year, recognising the fantastic work these charities do both in their local communities and beyond.”

The charity partners for this year's event are ACT for Meningitis, BUMBLEance, Down Syndrome Ireland (Mayo Branch), Irish Red Cross, Mayo Mountain Rescue, and Western Care Association.

All participants will receive a race t-shirt and complimentary car parking and refreshments at the airport will be provided on the day.

There is also a virtual option, in which those wishing to support but unable to make it can do a virtual run or walk.

Portwest Commercial Director Orla Good stated they are ‘delighted to partner with Ireland West Airport for the sixth year’.

“It is a privilege to be associated with this fantastic event once again because, while encouraging people to stay healthy, the event also supports the charities involved to continue to provide the amazing services they do,” she continued.

All are welcome to attend what promises to be a fantastic evening for all the family, raising much-needed funds for our charity partners in 2024.

Entry to the event costs €20 for adults, €5 for under 16’s, or €40 for a family.

Participants can sign up and find more information by visiting the airport’s website.
